While many expected the Baltimore Ravens to be involved in a showdown for AFC North supremacy, most felt it would be the Pittsburgh Steelers they would be facing in that game, however instead it is the Cincinnati Bengals.
Yes those Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals (3-1) caught the Baltimore Ravens (3-1) for the division lead last week with another late second victory for Cincinnati met with a tough first loss for Baltimore, making Sunday’s game all that more important.
Cincinnati is one freak play in their home opener from being one of the unbeatens in the league, but they instead can be happy with battling for first place with a 3-1 record.
Getting the reputation as the Cardiac Cats, each of the Bengals’ first four games have been decided in the final minutes of the games as they are off to their best start since heading to their lone playoff berth since 1990, in 2005.
The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, played their first real sloppy game of the year at the wrong time, at New England, and they suffered their first loss of the year. Baltimore committed nine penalties, which is their season high and pretty much fatal in a matchup with the Patriots as they loss by a touchdown, 27-21.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has not been particular stellar, but Carson Palmer has led them to game-winning drives last in the fourth quarter in three consecutive games, including their first home win over the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers a few weeks back.
Joe Flacco has been more consistent in his sophomore campaign, completing 95 of his 151 passes for 1103 yards and eight touchdowns with three interceptions, including against the Patriots last week, going 27 for 47 with 264 yards and two touchdowns, but his one and only interception came at a bad time, at New England’s nine and they punched it in just before halftime.
Baltimore swept the season series last year to break out of their struggles against Cincinnati, who had won three straight and six out of seven prior to last year.
